Sea levels in Tuvalu have risen by approximately 14 centimetres over the past 30 years due to climate change, posing an existential threat to the state's territory and sovereignty. Despite proactive measures undertaken by Tuvalu, gaps in the international legal framework continue to place its sovereign status at risk.
