Indonesia is experiencing a period of institutional strain, characterised by recurring public mobilisation in response to growing dissatisfaction with government policies, including the expanded role of the military in civilian affairs. The government’s response to these demonstrations has drawn scrutiny from both domestic and international organisations.
This assessment examines the drivers of Indonesia’s current institutional strain and assesses the accompanying security risks.
