On 28 February, the US and Israel launched joint strikes against #Iran as part of Operation Epic Fury. Rather than prompting a rapid collapse in Iranian leadership, the conflict escalated into a broader confrontation, heightening tensions involving the US. Iran retaliated through a range of measures, including the disruption of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical maritime chokepoint for global oil trade.
This extremism report examines the narratives surrounding US involvement in the conflict across online media platforms, including the use of weaponised content in the form of AI-generated media. It assesses the impact of these narratives on online engagement, evaluates the associated risks, and provides recommendations to mitigate them.
