Marked by the fall of the Assad regime, Syria’s 13-year civil war has come to an end. However, under the new governing authority, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a Sunni Islamist paramilitary organization, human rights violations have worsened, particularity against Syria’s ethno-religious minority communities.
This policy brief examines the historical roots of Syria’s ethno-religious divisions and proposes a framework to strengthen minority protections and promote long-term stability in Syria.
